Memorial Park was constructed after the June 1972 Flood that devastated Rapid City. The park was built in memory of the 238 victims of that tragedy. The rose gardens are located on the west side of Memorial Park next to the Civic Center and has over 120 different varieties of Hybrid Teas, Grandifloras and Floribunda Roses, totaling more than 1,200 roses.

Memorial Park is also home to one of the largest Berlin Wall exhibits in the United States.

Memorial Park is 27.5 acres in size and includes the following amenities:

Opening hours

All parks provide unlimited opportunities for fun and enjoyment and are open to the public until 10pm.


Free admission

Memorial Park is a municipal park, therefore there is no admission.

How to get there

Located in downtown Rapid City. Memorial Park is located north of Omaha Street near the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center. The park is bounded on the west by Mt. Rushmore Road, on the south of Omaha Street and on the east by Fifth Street
