Buonconsiglio Castle is one of the biggest fortified buildings of the Alps. It was built between the 13th and the 16th century. Originally it was called "Malconsey Castle" for the name of the hill where it stands. Judged too negative, it was changed to Buonconsiglio ("good advice" in Italian).

The most famous part of the castle is "Eagle Tower" (Torre Aquila). There you'll find the "Cycle of the Months" (ciclo dei mesi), a fresco considered as the most significant example of Gothic style in the world.
