Built during the 11th century, the Aljafería Palace is a fortified palace that was the residence of the Arab monarchs. After the reconquest of Zaragoza, the palace became the residence of the kings of Aragon. During the 16th century, it turned into a military fortress. It was restored during the 20th century and nowadays it is the place where the autonomous Parliament of Aragon meets.
